Description from the manufacturer
Natural iron oxide black is derived from magnetite, an iron ore. It is extremely dense and opaque, and produces some beautiful textural effects when used to make watercolour paint. Its moderate tinting strength make it an excellent mixing-black. Mars Black is the synthetic version of natural black iron oxide.
