Description from the manufacturer
The colour of red earth pigments is created by the presence of hematite, an iron-oxide-containing mineral. The exact shade varies from location to location due to the exact concentration of hematite and the presence of other minerals that is specific to that area. Venetian Red is a particularly orange shade of earthy red. It evokes the red earths used by the Old Masters of the Italian Renaissance.
